Add this of history to your collection, just tickets so the odds are crazy! Featuring the original autograph of Edward D Shames, a commissioned officer of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the 101st Airborne Division during WW2. Supplies to us by our friends from world famous Aces High Aviation Gallery
A highly decorated United States Army officer and the last surviving member of Easy Company, Colonel Shames passed away in 2021. His remarkable wartime service was later immortalised in the book and television miniseries Band of Brothers. He fought in some of the war’s most decisive campaigns, including Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge.
Notably, Edward Shames, who was Jewish, was among the first soldiers of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment to enter Dachau in 1945, taking part in the liberation of the camp.
As recorded in his obituary, when Germany surrendered, Shames and his men later entered Kehlsteinhaus, Hitler’s mountain retreat. There, Shames discovered several bottles of cognac bearing labels marked “for the Führer’s use only”. In a moment rich with personal and historical symbolism, he later used the cognac to toast his eldest son’s Bar Mitzvah.
After the war, Shames continued his service in the Army Reserve and later worked as a Middle East affairs specialist for the National Security Agency.
The graphite print by Richard Taylor depicts C 47 aircraft of the 439th Troop Carrier Group as paratroopers of the 101st Airborne descend into Sainte Mère Église on D Day, 6 June 1944. Professionally mounted to include the image and the original autograph of this iconic Band of Brothers officer.
Shames was played by actor Joseph May in Band of Brothers.
