Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it! If you like the idea of wafting around in a big, luxurious V8 saloon but you also care about the environment — or at least saving a few quid at the petrol station — then this could be the car for you!
This is my rather special 2007 Lexus LS600hL, the long-wheelbase version of Lexus’s flagship luxury saloon, powered by a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine paired with an electric motor. I love it!
If you’ve followed the channel for a while, you’ll know I’ve always had a soft spot for big luxury cars that offer an awful lot of car for little money. And the LS600hL is a particularly interesting example because it really does offer the best of both worlds. You get a glorious 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, with all that effortless performance and refinement, but you also get Lexus’s clever hybrid technology. So, while you can enjoy the experience of a big V8, the electric motor helps improve fuel economy and reduce emissions compared with a conventional V8 of this size. It’s practically tree-hugging motoring — well, by V8 standards, anyway!
And because it’s a petrol-electric hybrid rather than a diesel, the LS600hL is also ULEZ-compliant in London, provided the vehicle meets the relevant emissions requirements. That means you can enjoy all this old-school luxury without paying the daily ULEZ charge. Not bad for a car with a five-litre V8 under the bonnet!
Lexus combined that 5.0-litre petrol V8 with an electric motor to create a hybrid powertrain producing around 438 horsepower. It’s an incredibly sophisticated system, delivering effortless performance while also being remarkably smooth and refined. This isn’t a small, economical hybrid designed simply to save fuel; this was a proper flagship luxury car with a V8 engine and serious performance.
And of course, this being a Lexus, the emphasis was on quality, refinement and engineering. The LS was the very top of the range, and it received some seriously impressive technology and a cabin designed to isolate you from the outside world. It has all the features I love on a car including heated seats and a heated steering wheel.
And what makes this particular car especially appealing is the mileage. For a car of this age, it’s covered very few miles (Around 63,000 km/39,000 miles) which makes it a rather unusual find. A low-mileage example of Lexus’s flagship V8 hybrid is not something you come across every day, and it gives someone the opportunity to experience a genuinely special car.
I thought this was the perfect car for Curious Cars! It is all about finding interesting cars that you might not necessarily come across every day, cars that are a little bit different, and giving one of you the opportunity to own something genuinely special.
I’ve always thought there’s something rather appealing about these big, luxurious saloons. They were built without much compromise, when manufacturers were throwing extraordinary amounts of engineering and technology at their flagship models. And today, you can enjoy all of that for a tiny fraction of the original price.
I have prepared the car to a high standard (on this occasion without massively overspending!), it has been detailed at Tameside Detailing and it will come with a fresh MOT and service so it’s ready to go for the lucky winner. I will throw in a full tank of fuel and it even comes with the private registration as seen in the YouTube video.
One lucky winner will be announced live on the High Peak Autos YouTube channel, where I’ll conduct the draw personally.
Good luck everyone, and I hope this wonderful Lexus ends up with someone who appreciates it for what it is: a seriously impressive luxury car that still has an awful lot to offer.
Cheers,
Matt
