WIN High Peak Autos’ Mercedes SL

Well, I thought it was about time we had something a little bit different on Curious Cars. And I think this is a rather lovely example of a car that I’ve always loved.

This is a beautiful 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL350, the R230-generation SL, powered by the very reliable 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine.

If you’ve followed the channel for a while, you’ll know I’ve always had a soft spot for Classic luxury cars that offer an awful lot of car for relatively little money. And I think these iconic SLs are a perfect example of that. In-fact I personally own a R230 SL that I have had for over 6 years. I absolutely love them, this one even comes with a private plate “J5 JEU”

Back in 2004, this was a seriously expensive sports car. It came with a folding metal hardtop, a beautifully finished lavish interior, plenty of luxury and technology, and that unmistakable Mercedes-Benz quality. You could drive it with the roof up and enjoy the comfort of a luxury coupé, or drop the roof and enjoy a proper open-top driving experience. It really was two cars in one.

But what I particularly like about this particular SL350 is the engine. Under the bonnet, you’ve got Mercedes’ 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine (M112) . It’s smooth, refined and beautifully suited to this sort of car. And while it might not have the drama of a big V8, it has proven reputation for being one of the best engines made by Mercedes. It gives you that lovely, effortless Mercedes-Benz driving experience without necessarily having all the additional complexity of some of the bigger-engine versions. This one for example doesn’t come with the wallet-draining ABC or Air Suspension.

Of course, condition and maintenance history is key when buying one to avoid any headaches,  but find a good one, and I think you get an awful lot of luxury, style and enjoyment for your money. This particular example has come from a very good home. It’s only done 96,000 miles and comes with stacks of service history. I have had it to SPR for some work. Sam checked the car and replaced the rocker cover gasket and some suspension components as preventative maintenance.

This car in particular is a beautiful example. I’ve done lots of miles in this personally and I love it, and I cant help but smile every time I ger behind the wheel. And that’s exactly what Curious Cars is all about, giving one of you the opportunity to own something genuinely special.

This SL has that iconic Mercedes-Benz styling, a lovely leather interior (with wood wheel!), heated and cooled seats, cruise control and many other features to keep you entertained.

I’ve made sure this car is properly prepared for its new owner, so the lucky winner can get in, drop the roof and enjoy it. It has had a service recently and will come with 12 Months MOT.

I think there’s something really appealing about any Mercedes-Benz SL. It’s elegant, it’s comfortable, it’s still a lovely thing to drive, and it gives you a little taste of that old-school luxury motoring experience.
