1. Who we are
Find Competitions is a trading name of a sole trader based in England. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean that business, and "you" means the person using the site.
- Email: [email protected]
- Or use our contact page.
These terms apply whenever you use the Find Competitions website, mobile app, browser extension or emails (together, "the service"), whether or not you have an account. Please read them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal data. It is a separate document and is not part of these terms.
2. What we do, and what we do not do
Find Competitions is a free comparison site for UK prize competitions and prize draws. We collect publicly available information from the websites of the businesses that run them ("operators"), and present it so you can compare them.
- We do not run any competition. We do not sell entries, take payments for entries, hold draws or award prizes. When you enter a competition, you do so on the operator's own website, under the operator's own terms, and your contract is with the operator, not with us.
- We are independent of operators. Listing a competition is not an endorsement of it or of its operator.
- Some links earn us money. Some links to operators are affiliate links, which may pay us a commission if you enter. It costs you nothing extra.
- Some placements are paid for. Operators can pay to have a competition, a listing or a plan shown in particular places. We label these "Sponsored". Paying never changes a trust grade, and never changes the order of a list you have sorted (for example by price or closing date). Unpaid "Featured" picks are our own choice. More detail is on our how we rate page.
3. Our information can be wrong
Everything we show (prices, ticket counts, percentages sold, closing and draw times, prize descriptions and values, instant win prizes, odds, expected value, sell-out forecasts and trust grades) is either collected automatically from operators' websites or calculated by us from that information.
- Operators change their pages at any time, and our collection can fail or misread a page. What we show can be out of date, incomplete or wrong.
- Odds are worked out from the information we hold and assume the competition runs as described. Forecasts and expected value are statistical estimates, not predictions you can rely on. Prize values are estimates unless the operator states one.
- Trust grades are our opinion, formed from the checks described on our how we rate page. They are not a guarantee that an operator is honest, solvent or licensed, or that you will receive a prize.
Always check the details on the operator's own page before you enter. If the operator's page and ours disagree, the operator's page is the one that applies to your entry.
None of the service is financial, legal or gambling advice.
4. Who can use the service
- You must be 18 or over to create an account, and you must not use the service to enter competitions you are not old enough to enter.
- The service is designed for people in the United Kingdom. Competitions we list may not be open to you if you live elsewhere.
5. Your account
You can browse without an account. Some features, and browsing beyond a daily allowance of pages, need a free account.
- Give us accurate details, including a real email address you own. We may refuse disposable or temporary email addresses.
- Keep your password secure, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- One account per person. Do not create accounts for other people, or more than one for yourself.
- If you sign in with Google or Apple, their own terms also apply to that sign-in.
6. What your account includes
Your account lets you keep a watchlist, set alerts, save searches, record the competitions you have entered and their results, upload receipts, set spending budgets and cooling-off periods, and join private syndicates.
- Player Premium is currently included free with every account. If we start charging for it, we will tell you beforehand and you will never be charged unless you choose to subscribe. If you subscribe, the price, billing period and how to cancel will be shown to you before you pay, and section 7 will apply.
- Your records are yours. What you record about your entries, spending and winnings is for your own use. We do not check it, and recording something here does nothing at the operator. Figures such as your net position are only as accurate as what you have told us.
- Alerts and emails are sent on a best-efforts basis. An alert may arrive late or not at all, for example if a page could not be read in time. Do not rely on an alert as your only reminder of a closing date.
- Syndicates are private groups that you join by invitation. Only share an invite link with people you know. What you choose to pool is visible to everyone in the group, under the display name you choose for it.
- Spending controls such as budgets and cooling-off periods are there to help you. A cooling-off period cannot be shortened once it has started.
We may add, change or remove features, and change the daily browsing allowance for people without an account. If we remove a feature you use in a way that matters, we will tell you first where we reasonably can.
7. Paid subscriptions
This section only applies if you take out a paid subscription.
- Subscriptions are billed in advance through our payment provider, Stripe, and renew automatically until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time from your billing page. Your subscription continues until the end of the period you have paid for, and is not renewed after that.
- We may change the price with at least 30 days' notice. A new price applies from your next renewal after the notice, and you can cancel before then.
- Apart from the above, we do not refund part-periods, unless the law requires it or we close your account without you having broken these terms (in which case we may refund the unused part).
8. Using the service fairly
The service is for your own personal, non-commercial use. You must not:
- use any robot, scraper, crawler, script or other automated means to access, copy or collect anything from the website, app, extension or our API, other than search engines that follow our robots.txt file;
- copy, republish, sell or share our listings, figures, grades or reports in bulk or systematically, or use them to build or train a competing service, dataset or model;
- get around any limit we place on accounts or visitors, for example by creating extra accounts, or by changing or rotating your IP address, device or network;
- interfere with the security or running of the service, or try to access accounts or data that are not yours;
- upload or send anything unlawful, harmful, offensive or that you do not have the right to share, including in receipts, forwarded emails, display names or reports to us;
- send us reports, reviews or submissions that you know are false;
- use the service to harass, mislead or defraud anyone.
Sharing a link to a page, or quoting a figure with a link back to us, is fine.
9. Our content
The website, app and extension, their design and code, and the listings, figures, grades, reports and other data we compile belong to us or the people we license them from. They are protected by copyright and database rights. You may view and use them for your own personal, non-commercial purposes in line with these terms. Nothing in these terms gives you any other right to them.
Operators' names, logos, images and prize descriptions belong to those operators.
10. What you send us
When you upload or send us something (a receipt, a forwarded email, a syndicate name, a report about a listing, a message), you keep any rights you have in it. You allow us to store it and use it to provide the service to you, to look into what you have reported, and, for reports about listings, to share the substance of the report with the operator concerned. We will not publish your receipts or forwarded emails, or show them to anyone other than you.
11. Restricting or closing accounts
We may restrict, suspend or close an account, or limit what an account, device or network can access, if we reasonably believe that:
- the account or network is being used to collect our data automatically or in bulk, or otherwise in breach of section 8;
- these terms have been broken in another way;
- this is needed to protect the service, our users or operators, or to comply with the law.
Where telling you in advance would make it easier to get around the restriction, we may act without telling you first, and we may not explain exactly what has been limited. This will never affect the records you have made in your account, your ability to download them, or your ability to close your account. If you think we have restricted your account by mistake, contact us and we will review it.
12. Closing your account
You can close your account at any time from your account settings. We then delete your account data as described in our Privacy Policy. If you have a paid subscription, cancel it first.
13. Competitions run by operators
Any question or complaint about an entry, a payment, a free postal entry, a draw, a winner or a prize is between you and the operator, and should be taken up with them. We are not responsible for an operator's competitions, prizes or conduct, including if an operator cancels a competition, does not hold a draw or does not deliver a prize. We are happy to hear about problems with a listing, and you can report one from the competition's page.
14. Responsible play
Prize competitions cost money to enter, and most entries do not win. Only spend what you can afford to lose, and never treat competitions as a way to make money. If you are worried about your spending, use the budget and cooling-off tools in your account, and talk to someone: GamCare runs the free National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, 24 hours a day, and has more support at gamcare.org.uk.
15. Our responsibility to you
- The service is free and is provided as it is and as available. We work to keep it accurate and running, but we do not promise that it will always be accurate, complete, uninterrupted or free from errors.
- We are not responsible for any loss caused by an operator, or by relying on our information instead of checking the operator's own page, including money spent on entries or a prize not won or not received.
- We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, or for business losses: the service is for personal use.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, and nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
16. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for any reason at any time with appropiate notice.
- For a change that affects you, we will tell you at least 14 days before it takes effect, by email and in your account, and ask you to accept the new version before you carry on using your account. If you do not want to accept it, you can close your account.
- For a minor change, such as correcting a mistake or updating contact details, we will tell you but will not ask you to accept it again.
17. General
- These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another business, for example if the service is sold or moved to a company. We will tell you if this happens, and it will not reduce your rights. You may not transfer your rights under these terms.
- If a court decides that part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
18. Contact and complaints
If you have a question or a complaint about the service, use our contact page. We aim to reply within five working days.
