This is not simply another aged Bruichladdich. X4+18 Edition 01 began as a daring distillery experiment: a Scotch whisky distilled four times, rather than the usual two, before being matured entirely on Islay for 18 years. The spirit originally came off the stills at an extraordinary 85% ABV and, after nearly two decades in cask, was bottled at a formidable 63.5% ABV. Yet despite that strength, Bruichladdich describes it as refined, gentle and fruit-led, with layers of muscovado sugar, honeyed pastry, jammy fruit, dried apricot, sweet mango, spice and toasted oak. Only 2,400 bottles of Edition 01 were released, and this is the opening expression in a four-part series planned across six years. It was distilled, matured and bottled entirely on Islay.
