While it may not be as well known as some of it’s Islay neighbors, Caol Ila has quietly created a devoted following since being introduced as a single-malt with a dedicated core range in 2002. In the official 25 year old bottling, Caol Ila’s trademark medicinal and smoky character is softened by the years of maturation, creating a complex yet balanced dram.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose – Sticking plasters, hints of lemon zest, oily smoke and bonfire toffee.
Palate – Sweet palate entry with lemon juice and oak. Leather, notes of black pepper, spicy ginger and sweets.
Finish – Long, oily, peaty finish.
