Win this original German WWII Black Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz), produced by the highly regarded firm Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid and bearing the desirable “3” maker mark on the reverse.
The 1939 Black Wound Badge was awarded to German servicemen who sustained combat-related injuries during the Second World War. The Black Wound Badge was typically presented to personnel wounded once or twice in action.
This example was manufactured by Wilhelm Deumer, one of Germany’s foremost wartime award makers, renowned for quality workmanship and sharply detailed decorations. The reverse carries the maker mark “3”, identifying Deumer as the manufacturer.
IT IS IN NEAR MINT CONDITION!
The obverse features the classic design of a steel helmet over crossed swords, enclosed within an oak leaf wreath and surmounted by the national emblem of the era. The black finish is in amazing condition.
Deumer-produced badges are highly regarded by collectors for their crisp detail, quality construction, and distinctive reverse hardware. The maker-marked reverse provides clear attribution and adds to the badge’s desirability and collectability.
Examples retaining much of their original black finish are particularly sought after. Wear to the finish is common on genuine wartime pieces and often reflects period use and service history.
Today, the Black Wound Badge remains one of the most iconic German combat awards of the Second World War, representing the sacrifices of wounded servicemen. Maker-marked examples by Wilhelm Deumer continue to be highly collectible and are an essential addition to any collection of German militaria or wartime decorations.
