WWII BRITISH HOME FRONT & ARMY FAMILY GROUPING TO HUSBAND AND WIFE

Here is your chance to own a wonderful piece of British wartime history.

This fascinating husband-and-wife grouping tells the story of service on both the Home Front and the front line during the Second World War.

The husband, D.R. Slade, served throughout the war with the Royal Armoured Corps. Included is his Army Service Book, extensively completed with details of his military service, recording his enlistment in 1942 and continuing through to 1945. Also included are his War Department Driving Licence and other related wartime ephemera.

His campaign medals comprise:

• 1939–45 Star
• France and Germany Star
• Defence Medal
• War Medal 1939–45

Representing the Home Front is the service of his wife, Mrs Slade, who served as an ARP Warden. Included is her original ARP Warden’s steel helmet, complete with the ‘W’ to the front and rear, together with her ARP Warden’s Identity Card, issued by Rickmansworth Urban District Council and named to Mrs Slade. Also included is her hallmarked silver ARP Service Badge, housed in its original presentation box.

Rickmansworth, in Hertfordshire, lay close to London and was affected by enemy bombing during the war due to its proximity to the capital, making the work of ARP wardens vital to the local community.

A genuine, untouched husband-and-wife family grouping combining Home Front service with front-line Army service. Comes in a wooden box as originally found.
